Understanding and Implementing Gender Inclusivity in Your Practice
On July 19, 2022, the New Jersey Judiciary issued its new Policy on Accessi-
ble & Inclusive Communication (Directive #07-22) containing detailed guidance
aimed at eliminating gender bias in court proceedings. While only mandatory
for court personnel and operations, this directive can serve as a model and cat-
alyst for attorneys to improve gender-inclusivity in their own practices. Featur-
ing New Jersey clinicians specializing in human sexuality and issues impacting
transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals, this interdisci-
plinary panel will provide a foundational understanding of gender identities as
well as insight into the mental health considerations that make affirmative
moves toward gender inclusivity necessary, both as a “best practice” as well
as to avoid doing or exacerbating harm.
